Ode to Lawrence Lessig -
We all love Lawrence Lessig. Unfortunately those young’ns today just don’t know who he is… and really though I am not making a judgment on the name Lawrence or Lessig for that matter… it would be terrific if we could say, rename the guy.
Perhaps it’s time Lawrence Lessig got a new name to give him a little more street cred.
Check out The Woz’s site.
or what about Jennifer Lopez aka J-Lo. Even Dubya has a catchy name; come to think of it, maybe that’s why he’s managed to stick around.
A nickname is an endearing way to show our love and support and more importantly if your nickname wins you will win bragging rights forever AND I talked to Lessig’s most lovely assistant and she said she could hook up a special dinner with you and the man himself. If he doesn’t agree however, I suppose I will have to go out instead. (Chris says I have to kiss the winner on the cheek.) Rest assured that we will scrounge up a suitable prize. And let’s not forget the bragging rights you will receive for successfully hippifying the Prof.

Leave your suggestions in the Comments section! We have picture submissions that are sooo funny and as soon as I can get a hold of someone savvy enough to post them I will… but in the meantime you can email me at irene@nooneslistening.org

Irene McGee, who’s famous for walking off the set of MTV’s Real World Seattle and who now tours the country speaking to students about corporate media, has just launched a campaign to come up with a hip new name for Lawrence Lessig. She …

I thought LL was really the homage to hipness, but then again LL Cool J has not released anything in a while so perhaps it won’t ring home. I put together a simple LL logo here http://www.flickr.com/photos/21439826@N00/53968198/
But the more I think about it, there should be some hint of the message embedded - perhaps

Mr. ReMix-A-LotOk, that is too bad for me to even delete it, but its also funny. What was his nickname in college? Real reality is often the funniest (I know, I know, I don’t mean to get that conversation started) It needs to be short ideally, catchy and rhymeable (word?)

ehhhh…maybe his name shouldn’t be changed.
he’s the man, why should he change his name.
it’s like in “be cool” when martin tells chili that the hybird goes to slow and chili tells martin “if you’re important, people will wait for you.”
this guy only needs to be known by people who matter and want to know what’s going on in the world.
because he’s so scholarly, young’ns may not know him unless their in a support group for piracy.
first off, i didn’t know about him until i read a book of his b/c of a law school class.
secondly, his resume is like whoa, i’m sure he doesn’t mind that his name isn’t on billboards or in the latest 50 cent song.but if it needs to be done: Da Man should suffice.
btw…irene, you were and are the best person/character from the real world. i say character b/c who knows what mtv makes people do.

LL in LL Cool Jay stands for / stood for “Ladys Love” Cool Jason. So be careful what you wish for.
How about “Less G” ? Or do we have a middle name? Please tell me its Oliver. LOL.
Then again, shouldn’t his monkier (sic) come from a cadre of close friends and not a bunch of strangers online…. or is that the point?
Of course, there is always the time-honored fashion of adding one or more of the following popular prefixes and suffixes to the first or last name.
The-
King of-
Master of-
Lord - of --er
-o
-arino
-etzer
-ski

-oski

-ster
-and shitSimple contractions of Lawrence’s name should be considered in conjuction with the above.
LLster, llarino, lessigster, Master LLarino, The Less-ski and so forth.

So there you have it fans - yes, there is a third L for the big guy, now, where and what that L is for, is up to you to find out! Oh, for you my sweet brother, Larry had a cute nickname growing up.. anyone interested??
